Volunteering

Without volunteers, many of our events simply wouldn’t happen. Doing volunteer work is a fun and easy way to explore interests, meet new people and add a new dimension to your life. It can be a relaxing, fun way to escape from your day to day routines.

What can you do?

Our volunteers tell us they find it immensely rewarding giving up some of their time to help us out. If you want to share in this positive pastime and add to your social life (and your CV) contact us. Face painters, marshalls, first-aiders, leaflet distributors, photographers, envelope stuffers – we need you all!

Take a look at our events page to see what’s going on.

News & Events

Peer Support Volunteer- Ongoing

Day One offers a Peer Support service from ex patients. These individuals have travelled the trauma journey and kindly donate their time to go onto the Major Trauma ward to speak to current patients to share their own experiences and talk about whatever the patient would like to discuss, this could be from operations, to life after trauma, to the weather forecast. Many patients find it beneficial to speak to someone who has been in a similar position to themselves, rather than a health professional or friends and family. If you have experienced trauma and would like to get involved in peer support, there is a formal process to go through which starts with a quick email to gareth.harrop@nhs.net to register your interest. .

Mailing Assistance

Throughout the year we send out various mailings, primarily our Charity Chatterbox newsletter. Volunteers are always welcomed to help fill the envelopes and send out these mailings. If you are interested or would like more information please email gareth.harrop@nhs.net.

Collection Tin Co-ordinator

We are looking to increase our network of businesses with our collection tins displayed. If you have the time to visit the businesses in your local area seeking permission and placing collection tins we would be grateful for your help. You would also be required to collect the tins on a regular basis, return the monies to the Fundraising Office and replace the tins if permission is still obtained. If you are interested or would like more information please email gareth.harrop@nhs.net.

Events Promoter

We are always looking for individuals and organisation to help with the promotion of our events. We can provide information, leaflets and posters if you are able to spare some time to distribute and promote where appropriate. If you are interested or would like more information please email gareth.harrop@nhs.net.
