Staff from law firm, Irwin Mitchell have joined forces with Kings Chambers, a Leeds based barristers chambers to complete an epic fundraising challenge in lockdown.

The team of ten are competing against each other in a ‘7 marathons in 7 weeks’ challenge to support the Day One Major Trauma charity, based at Leeds General Infirmary. The charity provides help, advice, and peer support to victims of major trauma.

Irwin Mitchell have worked closely with Day One since its launch in 2014, as part of their legal panel, providing legal support and advice to patients and families who have been affected by major trauma.

“We will do anything we can to help patients at this difficult time”

On the 2nd May, the team began the challenge hoping to complete 26.2 miles each week (around 4 miles a day) by walking, running, cycling, and even getting in the steps on the cross-fit machine.

Sion Kingston, Partner at Irwin Mitchell said, “During this pandemic, it’s important for us to continue to support our local community and those in need and we will do anything we can to help patients at this difficult time.”

Thanks to their combined fundraising efforts almost £3,000 has been raised, equivalent to the cost of running the charity’s service for almost 10 days.

Justin Phelps, Day One Caseworker is so grateful for the law firms continued support, “We are incredibly grateful to Irwin Mitchell, and it’s great to see the team taking part in the 7 in 7 challenge to help raise money! The funds raised through their efforts will enable us to continue to provide exceptional support to patients and their families.”

There are now over 100 people signed up for the Day One ‘Seven marathons’ challenge and more than £35,000 has been raised, which is enough to support the charity for over three months.
