Claire Bassett, a trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner in ICU, is raising money for Day One by taking on the fearsome Weymouth Half Ironman later this month.
For her fundraising challenge, Claire is taking on the Weymouth Half Ironman on September 17 (this is also her husband’s birthday!). The half Ironman comprises of a 1.2 mile open water swim, a rather hilly 56 mile bike ride and then just a short(!) 13.1 mile run to finish. In total Claire will be covering 70.3 miles for more than 8 hours!
Claire has never done anything like this before and her training and preparation has taken up a lot of her time that she would normally spend with her family. Previously, Claire worked as a Major Trauma Specialist Nurse, so she has witnessed how life-changing major trauma can be.
Claire said: “If we think about it, we all know of someone who has suffered from major trauma – it can happen to anyone at any time. In that split second, lives can be devastated and suddenly everyday living becomes an uphill struggle. I feel I need to do something to help those in need.”
You can help Claire reach her £1000 target by sponsoring via her just giving page or by texting IRNM84 to 70070 with the amount you wish to sponsor, e.g.: “£5.”
Any sponsorship will be gratefully received and it will be sure to give Claire the extra motivation she needs to get through this challenge!
